Job Summary
Responsible for completing detailed and itemized material quantity estimates from owner or contractor furnished plan sets.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
1. Completes detailed and itemized material quantity estimates from owner or contractor furnished plan sets.
2. Determines accurate quantities related materials as measured from provided plan sets.
3. Identifies materials required for the construction of facilities.
4. Researches plans and specifications to determine any special material requirements. Procures, picks-up and returns plan sets as required.
5. Communicates with design engineer or owner to clarify any unusual or special material issues.
6. Determines if supplied materials meet local/state/federal specifications.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
Nature and Scope
8. Works in compliance with established procedures and/or protocols. Identifies and resolves readily identifiable, clearly defined problems. Demonstrates skill in data analysis, techniques by resolving missing/incomplete information, inconsistencies/anomalies in routine research/data.
9. Nature of work requires general supervision; exercises judgment. May be paired with a mentor. Work typically involves regular process checks or review of output by a coworker and/or supervisor.
10. May provide general guidance/direction to or train junior level support personnel.
Work Environment
11. Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
12. Typically located in a comfortable indoor area. There may be regular exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odors, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights.
13. Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Minimum Qualifications
14. Must be eighteen years of age
15. Must pass the Drug Test
16. Must pass the Background Check
17. Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable
Education and Experience
18. Typically requires BS/BA in related discipline. Certification may be required in some areas. Generally 0-2 years of experience in related field OR MS/MA and generally 0-1 year of experience in related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous estimator experience in Water, Wastewater, Utility, or Engineering field strongly desired.
Must be able to read plans, specs, and perform a take-off of materials timely, work independently, and make informed decisions and ask necessary questions.
Must be able to multi-task and work on more than one project at a time.
Must have working knowledge of Water and Wastewater systems and the materials provided for these construction jobs.
Experience in bid preparation, sales or related industry experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
