GENERAL STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
As a continually growing community, the Building Inspection role is key to our reputation as a place where individuals and organizations can set their sights high.
This role will deliver outstanding customer service to Ledgeview's residents and business community.
Provides building inspection services and necessary documentation; assures code compliance with State/Federal codes.
This position works closely in collaboration with the Zoning Administrator.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Demonstrate Ability to Manage Town Residential and Commercial Inspections AB1 Conduct on-site inspections of sites (erosion control), buildings and structures during and after construction to verify compliance with building codes.
Carry out periodic inspections of existing buildings, collaborating with the Fire Chief to ensure code compliance.
Inspect residential and commercial building projects for compliance with approved plans, codes, and standards; completes inspection reports and makes follow up inspections for compliance.
Stay up to date with State and Federal codes pertaining to building construction, fire prevention, property maintenance, demolition, and other construction-related fields.
Maintain up-to-date inspector certifications for the State of Wisconsin.
Attend mandatory recertification training sessions, seminars, workshops, and renew all certifications.
Initiates building condemnation procedures when necessary.
Assist the Zoning Administrator in field zoning inspections, primarily involving taking measurements and comparing construction site plans to built environments.
Support the Zoning Administrator in conducting final inspections of exterior building permit projects like decks, accessory structures, sheds, fences, and the like.
Displaying Strong Analytical Skills Review building drawings, site plans, specifications, and relevant documentation received from permit applicants to determine compliance with State and Federal building codes.
Review applications and approve permits for building, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, demolition, and occupancy permits.
Collaborate with the Zoning Administrator to provide insights when reviewing sign, fence, accessory structure permits, etc.
Demonstrate Technical and Mechanical Skills Support the Zoning Administrator in maintaining a comprehensive log of issued building permits.
Keep detailed records within departmental software pertaining to permit applications, inspections, and violations.
Demonstrate Strong Interpersonal Skills Confers with architects, engineers, designers, and contractors.
Interprets and when necessary, explains code requirements.
Assist the Zoning Administrator in documenting code enforcement violations.
Collaborate with the Zoning Administrator to communicate site plan revisions, requirements for incomplete permit applications, and responses to customer inquiries related to permits.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Required knowledge includes understanding building construction technology, engineering practices, mechanical design, and structural evaluation.
You should be capable of effectively using various sources of advisory data and information, such as building plans, permits, blueprints, inspection reports, site plan review applications, Wisconsin building and administrative codes, ordinances, tavern license applications, construction manuals, manufacturer's specifications, State statutes, procedures, guidelines, and non-routine correspondence.
Strong interpersonal skills are essential for engaging and communicating with the general public, Town officials, fellow Town staff, and contractors.
Your communication style should reflect empathy, helpfulness, and the ability to simplify complex regulations and procedures.
You must be proficient in learning and utilizing the software tools specific to the Town, as well as being skilled in word processing, spreadsheets, and database programs.
Mathematical abilities should include calculating percentages, fractions, decimals, volumes, ratios, present values, and understanding spatial relationships.
Additionally, you should be able to interpret descriptive statistical reports.
Ability to provide exceptional customer service and represent the Town positively and professionally.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING Three (3) or more years' experience as a State-certified commercial/residential building inspector; or progressively responsible professional work experience in the building trades with five (5) years of which have been supervisory experience in commercial/residential type building construction activity.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Wisconsin Department of Safety & Professional Services certification in at least three (3) of the following:
o UDC Construction o UDC Plumbing o UDC Electric o UDC HVAC Inspector Certification by the State of Wisconsin in at least one (1) of the following:
o Commercial Building, Plumbing, or Electrical Inspector Any certification not possessed at time of hire must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
SUPERVISION / DECISION-MAKING:
This role does not supervise other employees.
Decisions affect the operation of the entire Town.
Receives administrative direction from the Administrator, sets own standards and works within overall policies, goals, and budget limits with direct accountability for results.
This role collaborates closely with the Zoning Administrator.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Some duties require an employee to work under extreme weather conditions and environmental conditions of work site; be exposed to hazardous work environments; to work outdoors as well as in an office.
Position is primarily (50%+) performed in an outdoor setting.
